The DFW Marksmen ball hockey team was founded in 2020 by the members of Dallas Ball Hockey. They are Dallas-Fort Worth's first official competitive ball hockey team, competing in the Texas Division of the National Ball Hockey League.
In February 2020, the Marksmen played their inaugural games vs the Austin Arsenal down in Austin, Texas. They split a competitive two game series with Austin dubbed "Clash of the Texans".
In December 2020, building on that initial event in Austin, the DBHL hosted the "Texas Division Clash" by inviting the Austin Arsenal and the Red River Hot Sauce from Shreveport, LA to their home rink the Elzie Odom Recreation Center in Arlington, TX. It was a very competitive day, with the Red River Hot Sauce taking home the championship with a win over the DFW Marksmen in the final
That Event was a prelude to the Texas Division of the National Ball Hockey League, started in April 2021. In the inaugural season of the NBHL, ten divisions and over seventy teams across the country competed in a ten game season to crown national champions of ball hockey.
In the Texas Division, the Shreveport Red River Hot Sauce won the regular season division title. However, the Austin Arsenal took the Championship, defeating the Marksmen in the finals.
In 2022, the NBHL expanded greatly, adding seven divisions and over fifty teams across the country. They added another level of competition, Tier 3, in which the Texas Division played under. In the Texas Division, the Red River Hot Sauce, now called the Rougarou, defeated the Austin Arsenal in the championship game to advance to the National Championships in Marlton, NJ.
In 2023 the Texas division began to expand, adding in two new teams. The Shreveport Ragin' Gators and the Colorado Massive brought the division to five teams. The Red River Rougarou once again claimed the title defeating the Colorado Massive in the championship game.
The Rougarou did very well at the National Championships, making it to the Tier 3 finals, losing in OT to the Raliegh Squall.
In 2024, the Texas Division welcomed the Lone Star Legion, however, the Austin Arsenal could not field a team and the division remained at five teams. The Rougarou won the title for a third season straight, defeating the Colorado Massive once again in the Texas Division Championship.
In 2025, the division has continued to grow! The NBHL is welcoming three new franchises to the Texas Division, the Bossier City Voodoo, the Texas Diablos, and the Tulsa Heroes. The division now has seven teams and will be split into two tiers. The Rougarou and DFW Marksmen will compete for the Tier 2 championship and the Voodoo, Diablos, Heroes, Legion, and Gators will compete for the Tier 3 Division at the Mylec Cup National Championships in September.
At this point the NBHL has over 250 teams and 5000+ players across North America.
